Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan Celebrates His First Divine Liturgy as an Archpastor in San Francisco’s Cathedral of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow”


On Monday, June 30, 2014, His Grace Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, Vicar of the Eastern American Diocese and Vice Secretary of the Synod of Bishops, celebrated his first Divine Liturgy as an archpastor. Praying at the service were His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, members of the Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, clergymen, participants of the 13 th All-Diaspora Russian Orthodox Youth Council, parishioners and pilgrims.

Before the veneration of the cross, Vladyka Nicholas expressed his profound gratitude to the archpastors, pastors, Protopriest Andrei Sommer and the youth, the cathedral’s warden, Nicholas Buick, the sisterhood led by NV Triantafillidis, the Cathedral Choir under the direction of Vladimir Krassovsky and everyone else in attendance for their kind attention and love on his episcopal consecration the day before.

After the trapeza luncheon, His Grace Bishop Nicholas took part in a session of the Synod of Bishops, which is convening in an expanded form.
